Trailer Lights and Other Essential Items for Your Next Road Trip

You’ve dreamed about taking a road trip for years, and now you’re finally ready to make your dreams a reality. There’s something exciting and a tad romantic about hitting the open road and looking for adventure. You’ve spent months planning the route you’re going to take, you’ve saved up vacation days to ensure you’ll have the right amount of time off, and your friends have all chipped in money for road expenses. You think that you’re good to go, but there may be a few things you’re missing. We aren’t talking about the “ultimate playlist” or something trivial. We’re talking about essential car preparations.

Car chargers

Are you going to using a GPS device or just the GPS on your phone? Do you plan on listening to a playlist on your iPod? You’re going to be using a lot of power on this road trip, so you should make sure that you have car chargers, or adapters, for every electronic device you plan on bringing. Everyone should have their phone charged in case of an emergency, so some extra charging cables would be a welcomed addition to your trip.

A physical map

We know that you plan on using a GPS or your phone, but electronics can malfunction and service can be lost in particular areas. A physical map allows you to play it safe and feel comfortable when you’re trekking in unfamiliar territory.

Proof of insurance and AAA

We know that you’re planning on having a great time during your trip, but accidents and breakdowns can happen regardless of your plans. If you get into an accident during your road trip, you’ll want proof of insurance for the other driver and the police. Roadside assistance can also come in handy, especially in the event of a flat tire.

First Aid Kit

Expect the unexpected on a long road trip. You may not have a lot of situations that would require band aids and rubbing alcohol, but there are other things you can pack that can be helpful. Tylenol or Motrin for headaches, Pepto Bismol for an upset stomach, or Benadryl for allergies can be lifesavers.

Tail lights

These may seem like small things, but extra tail lights or trailer lights can be very beneficial. A broken or burned out tail light can get you pulled over or get you a ticket. They’re relatively easy to replace, so keep yourself prepared with a few extra trailer lights in your trunk.
